 Miran Kim joined first violin section of the the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra in 2014. She has held positions in the Houston Symphony, the Grant Park Festival Orchestra, and continues to perform each summer at the Lakes Area Festival in Minnesota. She serves as Assistant Concertmaster and Mentor musician in The Montclair Orchestra as well.

Kim was born in Kansas City and began studying the violin at the age of 4. At 10 years old, her family relocated to New York City in order for her to attend The Juilliard School’s Pre-College Division under the tutelage of Hyo Kang and Catherine Cho. Kim spent her summers studying at Yellow Barn, Aspen Music Festival, Fontainebleau (where she was awarded the Prix Casadesus), Taos School of Music, and was a featured young artist at the Starling-DeLay Symposium Program.

In 2008, Kim began her undergraduate studies at The Juilliard School with Joel Smirnoff. In 2009, she transferred to CIM when Smirnoff became President of the Institute. Kim completed her first year of the master’s program at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music, where she studied with Cho-liang Lin and served as concertmaster until she won her position in the Houston Symphony. Additional teachers include Benny Kim, Paul Kantor, Ida Kavafian, and Sylvia Rosenberg.

Kim was awarded the bronze medal at the Stulberg International String Competition in 2004 and was a recipient of the Jack Kent Cooke Award in 2006. She has also been featured on NPR’s award-winning show "From the Top" and can be heard on numerous movie soundtracks, including recently critically acclaimed films such as Judas and the Black Messiah and Little Women. Earlier this year, Miran was featured as a guest artist at her alma mater, The Cleveland Institute of Music.
